Rinjani Trekking center is one of the highest volcanoes in Indonesia, standing 3,726 meters above sea level. Located on the island of Lombok, the mountain offers spectacular views, including the beautiful Segara Anak Lake and natural hot springs.
There are two options for travelers to choose from for Mount Rinjani trekking packages: an open trip, where travelers join a group to climb Mount Rinjani.
The Rinjani trekking package is a private trekking option, where travelers can choose their own route and duration, accompanied by a professional guide and porter.
The Rinjani Trekking Center open trip package offers two duration options: a 3-day, 2-night package starting in Sembalun and a 2-day, 1-night package starting in Sembalun and continuing to the summit.
The complete itinerary for each package duration is as follows:
Free pick-up for those in Mataram and Senggigi begins in the morning.
One day before the climb, open trip participants will head to the meeting point to check in. They will then head to Senaru, where they will stay one night at Bale Kayu Homestay Senaru before beginning the climb the next day.
The meeting point and preparation for the climb begins in Sembalun Village, which is one of the main entrances to Mount Rinjani. Before climbing, climbers must register at the climbing post and receive a briefing from the guide.
Journey to Plawangan Sembalun: The first day’s journey begins with a walk through the vast grasslands around Sembalun. The journey includes several rest stops:
Post 1 (1,300 masl): A relatively flat path with beautiful views.
Post 2 (1,500 masl): A more spacious rest stop.
Post 3 (1,800 masl): The last point before the steep climb to Plawangan Sembalun.
Arriving at Plawangan Sembalun and Camping: After traversing the steep climb known as “Bukit Penyesala,” climbers finally arrive at Plawangan Sembalun. From here, you can enjoy a spectacular sunset with views of Lake Segara Anak in the distance. Climbers will camp here and rest in preparation for the summit attack the next day.
The summit ascent to the summit of Rinjani begins around 2:00 a.m. The journey to the summit requires extra stamina due to the sandy terrain, which makes walking difficult.
Enjoying the Sunrise from the 3,726-meter-above-sea-level Peak: After 3-4 hours of climbing, climbers will reach the summit of Mount Rinjani. From here, you can witness a magnificent sunrise with a 360-degree panorama of the islands of Lombok, Bali, and Sumbawa.
Descent Back to Plawangan Sembalun and Breakfast: After enjoying the summit, the journey continues back down to Plawangan Sembalun for breakfast and a rest before continuing the trek to Segara Anak Lake.
Journey to Segara Anak Lake: The journey to Segara Anak Lake takes approximately 3-4 hours. Upon arrival at the lake, climbers can enjoy the natural beauty while soaking in the natural hot springs, believed to have health benefits. The second night will be spent camping on the lakeshore.
Breakfast and Preparation for the Descent: The morning begins with breakfast and preparation for the descent via the Senaru trail. This trail is longer but shadier, as it passes through tropical forest.
Trekking to Senaru Village: The descent to Senaru takes approximately 5-6 hours. During the journey, hikers will pass through a variety of vegetation and views that differ from the Sembalun trail.
Arriving at the End Point and Pick-Up: Upon arrival at Senaru Village, the trek officially ends. Typically, hikers will be picked up by the trekking service provider and returned to their accommodation or the airport to continue their journey.
Free pick-up for those in Mataram and Senggigi begins in the morning.
One day before the climb, open trip participants will head to the meeting point to check in. They will then head to Senaru, where they will stay one night at Bale Kayu Homestay Senaru before beginning the climb the next day.
The climb begins from Sembalun Village, one of the official entrances to Mount Rinjani. Before setting off, participants will register at the Mount Rinjani National Park (TNGR) office and attend a briefing by a guide. This briefing covers the route, safety rules, and necessary equipment.
The climb begins by traversing a vast savannah. The trail is quite gentle, but the journey can be tiring due to the lack of shade. Here are some important points along the way:
Post 1 (1300 masl): The trail is still relatively flat and easy to navigate.
Post 2 (1500 masl): A rest stop with a view of the savannah.
Post 3 (1800 masl): The last point before the steep climb to Plawangan Sembalun.
The climb to Plawangan Sembalun is quite challenging, especially because of the steep climb known as “Bukit Penyesala,” which has approximately seven hills to traverse. Upon arrival at Plawangan Sembalun, climbers are greeted by spectacular views of Lake Segara Anak. This is the first campsite, where participants can enjoy the sunset and have dinner before resting in preparation for the summit the next day.
The climb to the summit begins around 2:00 a.m. The trail to the summit is quite difficult, sandy, making each step feel heavy and prone to slipping. The journey takes approximately 3-4 hours, depending on the climber’s physical condition.
After a long struggle, climbers finally reach the summit of Mount Rinjani. From here, the sunrise is breathtaking, with panoramic views encompassing the islands of Lombok, Bali, and Sumbawa. This is one of the best moments of the trip and certainly an unforgettable experience.
After enjoying the sunrise and taking photos, the journey continues back down to Plawangan Sembalun. The descent takes approximately 1.5-2 hours, less than the ascent. Once at Plawangan, climbers can enjoy breakfast before continuing their descent to Sembalun.
The descent follows the same route as the ascent. The descent to Sembalun takes approximately 4-5 hours. Upon arrival at Sembalun Village, the trek officially ends, and climbers will be escorted back to the pick-up point or accommodation.
